I finished "When Breath Becomes Air" by Paul Kalanithi a few nights ago.

Short story short, it was a beautiful reflection on life, purpose, and the pursuit of what matters.

Read it!

I started a book at midnight last night.

Finished it at 6:30 AM this morning.

Got a few hours of sleep before work 8)

It was "Eliza and her Monsters." It's a bit conventional in some manners, refreshing all over the place, and a good glimpse into mental illnesses.

I really enjoyed it. I spent most of the night letting the book fall on my face so I could squeal silently and kick my legs at the really cute parts.

I recommend it!

I started and finished "Sold" by Patricia McCormick today. The story follows a 13 year old Nepalese girl from a poor family who dreams of going to the city to make money working as a maid, give her mother all the nice things she's never had, and put a tin roof on their home. Instead, her step father sells her into sex slavery. Very light-hearted and cheery, as you can imagine.

It's a quick read, the prose is easy to digest, the subject matter a bit let so. There are brief moments of happiness that you know are about to be snatched away, and it leaves you with a sense of knowing you need to do something to make a difference but not having an idea about what that something is. Frustrating but so worth it.

Take the time to read it, if only to be made angrier and more aware about injustices in the world.

The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood.

Atwood is probably best known for The Handmaid's Tale, but this was the first book I read written by her. Right off the bat, its obvious she is an excellent writer. The dialogue, descriptions, and flow were superb. My only complaint was the pacing was a bit disjointed due to the nature of the plot (lots of time jumps building up to a twist ending).

P.S. Avoid wikipedia for plot summaries because they often post spoilers without warnings

Rating 7.5/10

i'm halfway through Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. it's really depressing. can't believe how badly people treated her and her little brother when they were kids.

"Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson

Sci-fi novel about linguistics, religion, and history. Main character is half black, half Asian hacker who fights with Samurai swords. Written in the early 90s, this book was one of the first examples of referring to one's online persona as an "avatar." Overall, very quirky and entertaining and the author blended the various themes together masterfully. 10/10 I would highly recommend to any sci-fi enthusiast.
