I just finished Dreamer's Pool, a Blackthorn and Grim novel, and I'm digging through the first of the Darkest Minds trilogy.

Dreamer's Pool is a bit of a different read for me--not so much in genre, because it's mystery and fantasy and a little romance, which are my usual literary haunts. The protagonist is older than I typically read, and much more worldly-wise and has a darker history than most heroines that narrate my stories. Not to mention, her partner isn't so much of a love-interest as a companion that shares a deep bond and is battling through his own mental health issues. And he's not even dashingly handsome!

I'd recommend the author, Juliet Marillier, to anyone who loves a good fable + ancient Ireland + magic (with consequences) + fairies.

As for the Darkest Minds -- I'm on page 58, and it's boiling with teenage angst. The plot's kind of silly, but it's fast paced, and the narrator is believable as a teenager who's a little lost with a huge upheaval in her life. It's a fun read so far.

almost finished with Love 101, by Peter McWilliams. lots of info about setting aside romantic love and focusing instead on being more self-reliant, building self-worth, and enjoying life more. it's a really good read.

started on Their Name Is Today, by Johann Christoph Arnold, about learning how children teach us many things and how they are blessings, and learning how to raise them to be happy and healthy.

make this your mantra today: "look inside my soul and you can find gold and maybe get rich." // "in the cold Kentucky rayyayayaayn." - Elvis

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon. Not a fan at all, didn't expect the plot element of homosexuality, but even without it, it still wouldn't be very enjoyable to read.

Recently I read Dashiell Hammett's 1929 The Maltese Falcon. Besides the fact that the women characters are all sexualized, it was a brillant detective novel. Takes places during the late 1920s in San Francisco told in third person that leaves the reader saying 'What the hell is going on?' I highly recommend this novel to any detective novel lovers.

I'm more than halfway through Naomi by Junichirou Tanizaki and I'm not a big fan of the story. I expected something totally different.

Harry Potter and the cursed child, read the eighth installment just to see how it all ends and well to be honest I'm not a Harry Potter fan so my opinions of it are skewed.
