having money is like almost an automatic magnet that attracts all kinds of opportunities, more wealth, and boosting your ego. I think those are the things that make you extremely happy. I mean, if you were praised like a god, richer than everyone else, and is one of the most powerful, wouldn't you be content? Wouldn't you be satisfied? Don't you agree that satisfaction = happiness?

and while it is true that having less money helps you to be more open, and more accepting, I bet 99% of the people would want more money.

it does not need it. as in it isn't a requirement. but it would be lying to say rich people generally aren't happier than normal people.

its up to your own outlook on life.

can you expand on that?

If a person need material goods and the things that excess money can buy to be happy, then they'll be real happy with it. If a person don't need all that excess material goods, they be fine with it or not. Many people just simply enjoy a simple humble life.

I grew up really poor but was still happy during those times because I enjoy and value little things as if they are big things. Now that I am older and have a little more, I value big things like little things because it's more easily available... so.. did money really bring me more joy? It seems to devalue what I have the more I have.

Its really up to how you look at it.

Yes it sure did. And yes it tends to "devalue" what you have the more you have, that's why excess of money suddenly becomes quite necessary.

EDIT: yes it sure did. because without money, a lot of the small things won't be there anyways

huh?? how do you know if it did? nahhh it didnt, I was a happy poor kid because I value my poor kid things.

and I never said without money because people would be homeless and dying without money

I said EXCESS money.

excess money gets you special privileges in life that normal people cannot get... that alone is quite an upper hand already.

ok so example, when you are born rich, and grew up rich and depends on money for those "upperhand". What happens when you suddenly lose it? lol see?? wouldn't life suck all a sudden without excess money? but you'll see those other kids without excess money enjoying life while you're miserable.

lol when you live both life, you will understand what I said my man.

Money can bring happiness but happiness don't need money.

People like us must become doctors and lawyers and stuff to be rich and those are not easy jobs.

If we talking about ordinary people then yes being rich is pretty stressful

I know but after they have become rich, wouldn't they then live a lavish, fulfilling life?

which is what I originally asked. although I sort of disagree with happiness doesn't need money. if a person is poor, wouldn't he be insecure with his financial status? wouldn't he strive to make more? unless he is one of those who are able to just walk through life without worries...

In my opinion, money can buy almost everything. Having a lot of money is probably the closest one can get to absolute satisfaction.

Money can buy you happiness in some ways but often you get bored of material objects after a few uses Nothing beats the feeling of doing a good deed in comparison to buying an expensive object. Money cannot buy you true love and true friendship. Sure you can get a gf and friends easily with money but they tend to be golddiggers and hangers on! Money cannot buy you good health forever sure it can prevent medical conditions and prevent death but in the end you are always going to die and you can't take money with you to the other side. I'd rather live my life knowing i've helped my fellow man than lived it to buy a nice house and car. The main goal of my life is to do something meaningful so when I die I know I'll have contributed something instead of chasing the money.

You have a very jaded view of happiness if you think "wealth" and "boosting your ego" makes everyone happy. I would be unhappy if everyone thought I was great because I had money. Satisfaction does = happiness but not just about wealth. I'd be happier winning the nobel peace prize or building a village or helping the less fortunate than having a million dollars. js Sure I'd like a few hundred dollars per month to pay my bills a little easier but apart from that I'm happy.

if you relate excess money with confident and security.. well that's your thing young man.

lol, to accept life as it is, is to be liberated from it. Think about it. ^_^

happiness comes before money, trust me =)
