you haven't been on a decent cruising cat.

You haven't lived until you drive 120mph in a car you built.

good accountants are dime a dozen.

to each to his own right? The point is that you have the choices with currency. you can choose to live like a hermit, or not. switch after a while if you want. that CHOICE is what you buy with currency. that to me is happiness.

OMG I miss blonde's, fat slice and top dog. do they still have those there??!?!?!

I'm glad you enjoy those things and make enough to make them attainable for you. I beg to differ in that I know I don't enjoy those things. Also, good accountants can't let you pay less if you have high wage income and no deductions. All of their tricks involve business loopholes, balancing capital gains, or itemized deductions. I don't have any of those. :)

Of course having more money beats having less, but if I think about how much harder I have to work to support such a lifestyle, the marginal benefit becomes not worthwhile.

And by no way am I living like a hermit.

Yes but i'm underage right now. I would do that when I'm old enough  and relationships can really help you in life in terms of looking for jobs and opportunities >>> making more money. And yes. Money does make life easier to live. Do you also know that it opens up a lot more opportunities that people without a lot of money simply cannot get? That itself is an upper hand to a more decent life than other people.

Lol that is not an excuse. If you can logically argue about this topic with me, you are old enough to make preparations for your future. Sure social connections broaden your horizon for better opportunities, but if that is what you look for in the end than you are sadly missing out on one of the most valuable, intangible things in life. And sure money does give rise to opportunities, and even shapes people's lives/destiny, but what you define as a "decent life" shouldn't be so largely determined by materialistic things. Plus who needs "opportunities" paved by money when you will feel more accomplished by doing it yourself. That would be more satisfying than being born into money and having opportunities.

One interesting thing I learned in psychology though. Women tend to judge their happiness by their relationships while men judge it by their ability to provide (make money) for their loved ones.

Yes and I am already starting. By making more connections. And who said anything about materialistic things only? Money can bring you emotional satisfaction too. And I didn't say anything about inherited money. I just said money in general. If you made that amount of money, then use it to create opportunities for yourself, then I think it is legit to say that you "accomplished" by "yourself".

Of course money creates an emotional reaction. You are missing my point that you depend on something physical like money and the things they bring to bring you happiness, hence materialistic... And I use inheritance as an example because you say having money = happiness. According to your logic anyone that is born into wealth should automatically be happy.

If money dont buy us happiness, how come our society still insists on spending a special day(Christmas,Birthdays, annivesary etc) with gifts?

Yes. Anyone who owns a mountain of money, should be able to achieve greater happiness in an easier way. Now it depends what they're gonna use the money for.

Depends on what your outlook on money is.

For me, I have no desire for it. I don't care about luxuries, I'm content with the simple things in life. If I'm able to sustain myself and live happily with my family and friends, what more do I need? Yes, people who are poor or living on an average salary often say how nice it would be to win the lottery or have a bigger house or a nicer car, but they're just blinded by desire and want. Rich people have their share of problems as well.

I also cannot stand people who believe in the concept of materialism. If anything, those are the type of people who will end up killing the earth and humanity. It's horrible to think that this is what our society is built upon.

money sure makes it easier to obtain the things in life that will satisfy you and make you "happy" though. It doesn't have to be materialistic either. I mean how are you gonna argue that my girlfriend or wife is a gold digger or not? you can't. and therefore as long as I believe that my partner truly loves me, then it does not matter. Now what matter is drawing her in in the first place. well some people use good looks. others use charms. others use talking skills. and i use money.

I felt the same way, until I had a health crisis which landed me in a hospital and subsequently bedridden for almost a year.

The things I want to obtain, money truly can't buy. The only things I want are things only humanity can give me. Secondly, if you're girlfriend or wife is a gold-digger, it wouldn't be that hard to figure out, and if she is a gold-digger, she isn't going to love you in the first place. If you're relying on money to buy you the "love" type of happiness, you're gonna end up depressed. What's worse is your exploiting your weakness on here, making it easier for girls to take advantage of you. -.- I think this topic was made just to piss me off.

But what it all comes down to is the fact that you're still young. *pat, pat* Perhaps with some more life experiences and after taking a philosophy class, you will gain a better understanding. I'm just gonna walk away from this topic now that I've given my two cents.
